Early Clinical Results Show High Degree of Accuracy and Ease-of-Use KneeAlign Surgical Navigation System

Interim results presentation by Michael M. Kang MD at the Annual CAOS Meeting in Paris, France, June 19, 2010

Aliso Viejo, CA - June 21, 2010 - OrthAlign, Inc., a privately held medical device company in Aliso Viejo, CA, today announced encouraging early results of a clinical study using its recently launched palm-sized disposable KneeAlign navigation system for total knee replacement procedures.

The data was presented by the study's primary investigator, Michael M. Kang MD, at the International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery Annual Meeting in Paris, France on June 19, 2010.

The KneeAlign System study is currently being conducted by Michael M. Kang MD and colleagues at the Insall - Scott - Kelly Institute for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in New York, NY.

"These early promising results demonstrate that KneeAlign is accurate and reliable with ease of use intra-operatively", said Michael M. Kang MD: "the study goal is to prospectively compare intra-operative tibial component coronal and sagittal alignment goals with the results obtained as measured on post-operative radiographs. An analysis of the results of the first 25 TKAs performed using the KneeAlign System showed no tibial component placement outliers (defined as a deviation of greater than 2 degrees from intra-operative goal) in either of the coronal or sagittal planes. Tibial component position was on average within 0.56 degrees of goal resection in the coronal plane (range 0-1.5 degree), and was on average within 0.61 degrees of goal resection in the sagittal plane (range 0-1.4 degree)."

"We are very pleased with these early clinical data", commented Pieter Wolters, President and CEO of OrthAlign. "After receiving market clearance from the Food and Drug Administration in March, KneeAlign is now available in selected US markets. The feedback from Dr. Kang and other surgeons who have used the product has been that it's accurate and easy to use, which were our primary goals developing the product. We congratulate Dr. Kang with these excellent results and look forward to the clinical results from this and other studies."
