ABOUT ORTHALIGN

OrthAlign, Inc. is committed to providing orthopedic surgeons with user-friendly, cost-effective, surgical navigation products for precise alignment. The KneeAlign® 2 system provides the surgeon with simple, precise distal femoral and tibial resection for total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The tibial cut is often described as the foundation for a successful TKA, and tibial malalignment [link to malalignment], in particular, has been associated with increased risk of implant failure and revision surgery.3

For the past decade, the principal alternative to conventional instrumentation in TKA has been large console computer-assisted surgery (CAS) systems. These CAS systems have been shown to significantly improve TKA alignment results, with a recent meta-analysis of data from 29 randomized clinical trials finding that 9% of TKAs performed with CAS resulted in mechanical axis malalignment of greater than 3° vs. a 31.8% outlier rate for TKAs performed using conventional instrumentation.4

However, only about 3% of TKAs are performed using CAS in the United States.5 There are a number of reasons why orthopedic surgeons have not adopted CAS, including its extended learning curves, longer average procedure times and high capital costs, and its operating room hassles associated with sensitive optical fiduciaries and additional staff.

The KneeAlign® 2 system is designed to fit within the surgeon's current technique, helping to ensure that the operation proceeds quickly and efficiently. Unlike custom-fit cutting blocks, the surgeon is free to adjust the KneeAlign® 2 instrumentation according to his/her intra-operative clinical judgment and no CT Scan, MRI or additional x-rays are required.

In addition, the KneeAlign® 2 system requires no capital expenditures and, based on clinical experience, entails only a short learning curve, allowing the surgeon and hospital to quickly evaluate the system at minimal cost.
